NeurogesX Appoints Karen Harder as Senior Vice President, Regulatory and Technical Operations

Harder Brings Experience in Clinical and Regulatory Management for Drug and Medical Device Development

San Carlos, Calif. - February 2, 2005

NeurogesX today announced it has appointed Karen J. Harder as Senior Vice President, Regulatory and Technical Operations. Ms. Harder, who has many years experience in managing clinical and regulatory affairs for drug development and medical device projects, is responsible for all regulatory and technical aspects of NeurogesX’s products.

“ NeurogesX is proceeding rapidly into its Phase 3 clinical program of NGX 4010 in the treatment of Post Herpetic Neuralgia and this appointment recognizes Karen’s comprehensive experience in regulatory and technical operations,” said Anthony A. DiTonno, CEO and President of NeurogesX. “As we approach our planned NDA filing date, Karen’s track record in helping bring treatments to market makes her a critical part of our management team.”

NeurogesX is commencing a Phase 3 clinical program of its topically administered, peripherally active pain treatment NGX-4010, for the treatment of post-herpetic neuralgia (associated with shingles) and is nearing the completion of a clinical study in the treatment of painful HIV-associated neuropathy.

Ms. Harder joined NeurogesX in November 2000 as Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance. Before joining NeurogesX she was Vice President, Clinical and Regulatory Affairs at GanTech International, Inc., a start-up biotechnology firm. From 1998 to 2000, she was Vice President at Cygnus, Inc. As a member of the executive team, she was responsible for developing regulatory, quality, and clinical strategies for meeting corporate goals. From 1990 to 1998, Karen held various management positions with Scios, Inc., where she developed and implemented regulatory, quality and clinical strategies for a number of drugs at varying states of FDA submission. Karen also spent several years at Genentech, Inc. managing and conducting clinical studies as well as directing scientific research.

Ms. Harder obtained her M.A. in Microbiology from the University of California, Berkeley and her B.S. in Medical Technology from Rush Medical University.
