About NeurogesX

Company History

NeurogesX, Inc. was founded in 2000 by Dr. Wendye Robbins and others to develop innovative therapies for the treatment of neuropathic pain. At that time, available treatments provided only partial pain relief and were associated with unwanted side effects. Dr. Robbins, a board-certified anesthesiologist and currently a pain specialist on faculty at Stanford University, had experimented with high concentrations of capsaicin to treat a variety of neuropathic pain conditions. Based on her work, NGX-4010 was developed to rapidly deliver high concentrations of synthetic trans-capsaicin. Results of early clinical studies led to a comprehensive investigational development program for NGX-4010 in neuropathic pain.

Since its inception, NeurogesX has grown into a full-fledged biopharmaceutical company with an experienced management team made up of scientific, medical, technical operations, regulatory, financial, and commercial personnel. NeurogesX is focused on developing and commercializing novel pain management therapies. The company is assembling a portfolio of pain management product candidates and is developing innovative new therapies based on known chemical entities. In addition, Neurogesx is actively pursuing new products through both in-licensing and research and development.
